Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a detail-oriented and culturally fluent Remote Game Translator – Yoruba/English to support our game localization projects. This role requires an individual with strong linguistic skills and a passion for gaming to accurately translate in-game content, user interfaces, storylines, and support materials from English to Yoruba (and vice versa) while preserving the context and user engagement. Your expertise will help deliver culturally relevant and engaging gameplay experiences to Yoruba-speaking players across the globe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate game content (dialogues, quests, menus, subtitles, etc.) from English to Yoruba and Yoruba to English with high accuracy.

  • Maintain the tone, humor, and cultural references to ensure authentic and engaging player experiences.

  • Collaborate with localization project managers, developers, and QA teams to meet quality and delivery standards.

  • Perform linguistic testing of translated games to identify and correct translation, formatting, or consistency issues.

  • Edit and proofread translations for grammatical accuracy, terminology, and clarity.

  • Maintain and update translation glossaries, style guides, and localization documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Fluency in both Yoruba and English – written and spoken.

  • Excellent grammar, vocabulary, and cultural understanding of both languages.

  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to retain game tone and voice.

  • Solid knowledge of gaming terminology and game genre familiarity (RPGs, strategy, adventure, etc.).

  • Proficiency in translation or localization software/tools is a plus (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ, Crowdin).

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of translation experience (gaming, media, or software translation preferred).

  • Previous experience in game localization is highly desirable but not mandatory.

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Yoruba is essential.
