What to Expect
The Associate Manufacturing Engineer, GA position, reporting to General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering Manager, is located at our Fremont Factory location. The primary responsibility of this role is to support, and manage introductions of new manufacturing equipment and processes as well as continuous improvement of existing equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This person will drive the implementation of new projects, production lines and product changes. The successful candidate is a self-starter, has strong engineering skills and leadership capabilities, and can manage a small group of engineers to execute multiple projects and priorities at the same time. This role requires working closely with Design Engineering, NPI, Quality, Production, Purchasing, Industrial Engineering, external Line builders, and other departments to take vehicle design changes and new vehicle designs from initial concept through prototype development and into full production, and to transform and adapt existing manufacturing equipment to changing requirements and conditions.

What You'll Do
  • Design, procure, and fully commission equipment, specifically: stakeholder buy-in, RFQ, vendor selection, decision analysis, project workflow approvals, installation, and commissioning
  • Ensure thorough and proper equipment validation and production startup through FAT, SAT, OEE, availability, complete technical documentation, and transfer of ownership success criteria
  • Provide detailed assessments and critical Design For Manufacture (DFM) reviews of Product, Process and Tooling designs
  • While executing projects objectively define and achieve OEE, throughput, and cycle time
  • Lead GA projects both internal and external with tooling design and reviews
  • Create & provide Process sheets, Work instructions, Maintenance instructions, Manufacturing BOM, and other documentation required to train production & maintenance, and effectively transfer ownership after SOP
  • Study technologies to expert-level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead new / newly implemented technologies
  • Develop business cases and ROI studies, and communicate project justification to senior leadership
  • Provide technical support, leadership, and training to engineers and cross departmental teams
  • Work in a hands-on capacity in a production environment to fully understand scope, impact and associated changes

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of proven experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex manual and automated manufacturing equipment & processes, preferably in the automotive industry
  • Work independently with concepts and documentation from prototype to sustaining activities
  • Familiarity with assembly processes, technologies, and platforms, their capabilities, and limitations
  • Extensive Proficiency with 3D (SolidWorks, 3Dx, Catia) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD) platforms
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required

Expected Compensation
$91,600 - $137,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
